Board Blog

Parker

So as everybody knows, surfboards are a very important piece of surfing. Lucky enough for Conner and I, we have one of the biggest surfboard manufacturers in our backyard! Channel Islands definitely produces some of the most well made surfboards and we live just down the street from the factory so we are always in and out talking with the shapers about what we want our boards to be doing. Lately, I have been working on my boards for the World Junior Championships held later this month in Portugal. A lot of my focus has been on finding that magic thickness on my boards matched with the right amount of rocker to fit the curve of the wave. I have found that I really like the amount of rocker that the Fred Rubble has for the more average slopey waves that we end of surfing most of our contests in. So with that good rocker, I have been going through various thickness to find the one that feels best for me. These two boards are Fred Rubbles that are 5’10” x 18 1/2 x 2 1/4. However, the one on the right is 2 1/4 – , meaning that the thickness is taken down on the rail so it can bite into the wave face a little faster. With these two boards I have been using the Future Fins AM1 template made out of all fiberglass for a nice stiff and drivey feel. And as for the paint jobs go, the one on the right is inspired by my favorite surfer, Bruce Irons. I watch Bruce surf more than anybody and in all of his old Volcom surf movie parts he was running this paint job and absolutely RIPPING! so yea… I’m a copy cat ! The one on the left is kinda just be throwing some paint down. Both are done with spray paint and paint pens.
